Your Story

        Theresa Dabek O’Brien has a bachelor’s degree in Communication Arts and English. She has worked for a major women’s magazine, several small-town and larger city newspapers, and worked in the Newport News, VA, school system for 13 years, sharing her love of writing with elementary-aged students. She started her Your Story business by combining her love of writing and her desire to preserve individual’s life stories. She believes that everyone has a story to tell and share, and in this age of  instant and digital communication, there is something to be said for having a written account of one’s life.

        There are several methods that can be used to create a Your Story book. Theresa can conduct one-on-one interviews, either in person or via Skype or Zoom, or she can compile the answers from a comprehensive questionnaire that clients fill out. In some cases, clients like to write their story in their own words, and she can provide editing services. In addition, she can scan old documents and pictures, which will enhance the telling of one’s story.  Once all the information is compiled, she uses a professional online service to create a keepsake book, either in hard or soft cover, and creates an account for the purchasing books for families and friends.

      The author Anais Nin wrote, “We write to taste life twice – in the moment and in retrospect.” There is no greater gift you can leave to your family than the story of your life.
